EDMONTON – Concerned motorists pulled over to help five people in a vehicle that lost control and rolled near Elk Point on Wednesday, but one person died at the scene.
Just before 2 p.m., Elk Point and Bonnyville RCMP were sent to a single-vehicle collision on Highway 41 near Township Road 585A, which is approximately 18 kilometres north of Elk Point.
RCMP said a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier was heading north on Highway 41 when the driver lost control. The car then rolled and ended up on its roof.
Other motorists stopped and helped get the four injured people out of the car. A fifth person, the 21-year-old male driver, was pronounced dead at the scene.
EMS, the Elk Point Fire Department and other RCMP detachments arrived on scene and the four passengers were taken to hospitals in the area. Their conditions are not known.
RCMP continue to investigate but said it appears speed and alcohol are likely factors in the crash.
Elk Point is about 200 kilometres east of Edmonton.
